Employment references are most frequently sought after the applicant has been given a provisional offer. However, employment reference requests can also be processed as part of a pre-employment checks programme while interviews, assessments etc, take place and the information then contributes to the selection decision, prior to any offers being made. You can use our pre-employment checks during any part of your recruitment process. Once you meet with our advisor you will be supplied with an application and general release (consent) form. All our forms have been reviewed by Employment Law and Data Protection experts for compliance with all the relevant regulations.

Applicants for the position will be required to fill Powerchex’s employment application and general release form where they consent to have their background verified. You can fax/email us the signed forms or your candidates can complete our online form. On receiving the paperwork our researchers will conduct a full verification of all the credentials and employment histories listed. Any negative information will be communicated to you immediately and you will have a full pre-employment checks report on your candidate within three to five business days (subject to the availability of the referees).
A quick turnaround ensures that you have all the necessary information before the employee starts in their new job and the recruitment process is not delayed. We aim to provide you a pre-employment screening report in 3-5 business days and well before the commencement of employment. We understand the importance of quick turnaround because if the employee starts a job before the receipt of their employment references, the requirement to obtain satisfactory work references is no longer a condition of employment. The employee will have the same rights in relation to wrongful dismissal (i.e. breach of contract) as any other employee.
